Irene Adell Schafer passed away at the age of 95 on February 5, 2026. She was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan to Lucile (Cashen) and D. Jack Todd on March 10, 1930.

For many of her later years, Irene volunteered daily at the Mecosta County Senior Center, where she was known as the Card Lady. She spent a great deal of time recycling pre-loved greeting cards. Irene was also involved in the Readers Theatre and the Red Hat Society. She was known to have the biggest heart and most kind soul.

Irene is survived by her husband, Stephen; children: Bernard Schafer, Janet Schafer-Beck, and Michael Schafer; as well as Schafer in-laws: Mary Lou Schafer, Philip (Judy) Schafer and Willard (Shirley) Schafer.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister: Bonnie (Paul) Howland; son: Mark Schafer; daughter-in-law: Patty Schafer; son-in-law: Tom Beck; as well as Schafer in-laws: Clara Mae (Martin) Quillen, Bernard Schafer, Eugene (Linda) Schafer, Dolores (Carl) Frick, Theresa (Robert) Clark, and Virgil Schafer.

Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Barryton. The memorial and burial will be held at Martiny Township Cemetery on May 13, 2026 at 1:00 PM, with a luncheon to follow.
