Ione P. Marek, age 91 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born May 9, 1923 in Morley, the daughter of Samuel and Pearl (Lint) Chipman. Ione attended the Big Rapids First Baptist Church. She helped out at home on the family farm and was employed by Ferris State University in food service until she retired. Ione greatly enjoyed going for rides with her girlfriends and stopping for dinner along the way. She is survived by her loving family; three sons; James (Rose) Marek of Texas, David (Patricia) Marek of Hersey and Stephen (Barbara) Marek of Big Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and special friends, Delores Clark and Sue Scharp. Ione was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry J. Marek on May 19, 1994; one brother and seven sisters. A memorial service will take place 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Big Rapids First Baptist with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Ione's name to the Big Rapids First Baptist Church or Heartland Hospice. Envelopes may be picked up at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
