Ila L. Garchow, age 74 of Chippewa Lake, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at her home. She was born October 18, 1935 in Mecosta County, the daughter of James and Zelda (Sample) Stockwell. Ila graduated from Barryton High School. She married Delbert Garchow in December of 1953. They made their home in Clare until moving to Chippewa Lake in 1962. Ila was an active mother and member of her community. She had worked as a Boy Scout and Brownie leader. Ila was a talented artist and expressed her creativity through floral design and cake decorating. She also worked with ceramics and stained glass. Ila was an accomplished seamstress and had earned the advanced master gardener certification. She was a member of the Emerald Lake Birthday Club for many years. Ila is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Scott) Langworthy of Chippewa Lake; 3 sons, Steven (Diane) Garchow of Rodney, Lynn (Jackie) Garchow of Evart, Don Garchow of Chippewa Lake; 10 grandchildren, Chad (Becki) Garchow, Brent (Annie) Garchow, Shawn (Shelly) Garchow, James Garchow, Shawn David Riley, Donald Jr. (Courtney) Garchow, Charles Langworthy, Robert Dyer, Hannah Walma, Karen Walma; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Deanna) Stockwell of Evart; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Harpster of Clare and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ila was preceded in death by her husband Delbert Garchow on September 15, 1986. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 28th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with interment at the Chippewa Lake Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorial contributions in Ila's name may be made to Mercy Home Hospice of Cadillac.
