Hugh A. Fulkerson Sr., age 71 of Reed City, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006. He was born November 4, 1934 in Sparta to Alfred and Edna (Cutler) Fulkerson. Hugh graduated from Godwin Heights High School in 1952. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War on the now decommissioned, USS MACON as a radar/radio repairman. Following the service Hugh attended Ferris State University where he continued his education in electronics communication. He married Shirley Ray of Big Rapids on March 26, 1955 in Grand Rapids. They moved to Big Rapids to make their home where Hugh worked at Wolverine World Wide, retiring after 36 years of service. Hugh was a life member of the D. A. V. Chapter #18 in Big Rapids. He will be forever missed by his loving family including, His wife of 51 years, Shirley of Reed City Son, Hugh Jr. (fiance Karen Logan) Fulkerson of Paris 4 daughters; Denise (James) Hall of Tustin Julie Merryman of Reed City Diane (John) Reed of Tustin Laurie (William) Lucha of Tustin 14 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren a brother; Merlin (Mary) Fulkerson of Six Lakes a sister; Barb (Frank) Noye of Saline an Aunt; Pauline DeVoss of Louisville, KY and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Lloyd Leece, one uncle, Marshall Line, and a niece, JoAnn Noye-Brown. Funeral services will take place 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 14th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor David Westover officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home today (Thursday) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until services at 3:00 p.m.
