Herbert Walter Weining, age 74, of Chippewa Lake, passed away, with his family at his side on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at his home. He was born April 23, 1943 in Grand Rapids, the son of Walter and Hazel (Fifer) Weining. Herb attended Union High School.

He married Janice Luyk on May 29, 1964 in Grand Rapids. Together they made their home and raised their family in the Marne area. Herb volunteered on the Wright-Tallmadge Twp. Fire Dept. for 23 years.

He was a member of the Big Rapids Eagles Aerie #2535 and Evart Moose Lodge #2452. Herb enjoyed Nascar and a good game of golf. He dearly loved his six grandchildren and looked forward to taking them on pontoon rides around the lake to swim and get ice cream.

Herb is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice of Chippewa Lake; three children, Dave (Karen) Weining of N.C., Dawn (Joel) Mervau of Lowell, Doug (Cheryl) Weining of Howard City; six grandchildren, Ashlee Weining, David Weining, Austin Weining, Jerid Weining, Cylee Weining, Bryce Mervau; a brother, Lonny Weining of Brethren; a sister-in-law, Nancy (Gus) Permoda; a brother-in-law, Tom (Jennie) Luyk and several nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends who will continue to hold the memories they have close to their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Hazel and one brother Lou (Lucille) Weining.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24th at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday (10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)

Memorial contributions in Herbert's name may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
