Herbert Carl Domke, age 87, of Barryton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in Frostproof , Florida . He was born on October 11, 1925 in Ocqueoc , MI to Albert and Anna (Ostrofski) Domke. He was raised on a farm by industrious German & Polish Lutheran parents. His Christian values and hard work-ethic are the legacy he left behind for his family. Herb was honorably discharged from the United States Army and went on to marry his Sweetheart, Christina Walters, and they made their home in Ortonville , MI , before moving to Barryton in 1983. Herb retired from 30 years of employment at General Motors in 1981. Herb loved his family, strawberry farming, and working with his hands; whether it be the masonry he was so gifted at, his stained-glass projects, or growing the most lush and beautiful annual gardens around. Herb is survived by Christina, his loving wife of 64 years, their two children: Carl (& Jane) Domke of Harrison, and Alicia (& Marshall) Carroll of Barryton; Grandchildren: Kristie (& Mike) Fish, Brent (& Jennifer) Domke, Nathan (Amber) Domke, Scott Domke, Gabe (& Kelly) Carroll, Brice Domke, and Matthew Domke; Great-Grandchildren: Jacob, Jeffrey, Jessika, Wyatt, Tanisha, Zeb, Gage, Mattison, Cecelia, Josh, and Jaki, Taylor , Kaleb, Kohl, Eli, and Spencer Brothers: Ben (Carrie) and Otis (Shirley), and many nieces, nephews and dear friends who will continue to treasure the memories they have of Herb. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Anna, and his siblings Paul, Josephine, Esther, Anna, Marie, Albert, Marvel, Morris, Mayend, and Bruno. He rarely spoke of his mother, father, or siblings without tears, because he missed them so acutely. It now brings his family great comfort to know that there is a beautiful, long-awaited Domke Reunion in Heaven for Herbert! "What God ordains is always good." Blessed be the name of the Lord. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Barryton Church of God with Pastor Gary Bryan officiating. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Brown Cemetery in Barryton.
