Obituary

Professor Henry W. "Hank" Anderson age 72 of Stanwood passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in Farmington Hills. He was born June 2, 1934 in Stanwood to Harold and Nellie (Weidenhammer) Anderson. Henry graduated from Big Rapids High School and went on to Michigan State University where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Culinary Arts. Henry worked at the University of Detroit as food director and then as a Professor at Macomb Community College retiring in 2000. In 1982 Hank and his wife Sandy established the Serendipity Restaurant in Stanwood. He was a member of St. Paul's Campus Parish in Big Rapids. Hank will be remembered by many dear friends in many different ways. He was always a hard working man. When he was at Macomb Community College he pioneered programs that are still in existence today and he published a book that is in the congressional library. He wrote grants for River Walk. Hank helped prepare meals for the students at St. Paul's and was involved in their retreats. Hank encouraged others, he gave good advice, had a dry sense of humor, was fiercely loyal, he was intelligent and will be forever missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife; Sandy of Stanwood 2 daughters: Michelle (Gary) Sheren of Perrinton Laurie Spencer of Oscoda 2 grandsons; Nickolas and Patrick Whitcomb 2 granddaughters; Megan and Erin Spencer 4 Step-children: Jim (Barbara) Travis of Sterling Heights Donna (John) Meier of Sterling Heights Joe Travis and his daughter Kayla of Stanwood Renee (Kevin) Haller of Avon, IN 2 brothers: Dave (Bettie) Anderson of Stanwood Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of San Diego, CA 13 step-grandchildren, 4 great-step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Besides his parents, Hank was preceded in death by his infant son, Steven Henry Anderson and a step son, John Travis Funeral mass will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 11th at St. Paul's Campus Parish with Father Lam T. Le officiating. The family will greet friends at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Sunday, September 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a scripture services at 6:00 p.m. that evening. Memorial contributions in Hank's name may be made to the Mecosta County Senior Center or St. Paul's Campus Parish Kitchen renovation.
