Helen "Leora" Townsend-Stone, 92, of Blanchard, MI passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Masonic Home in Alma. She was born on September 30, 1917, in Pittsburg, PA the only child of Milton and Mabel (Morphy) Curtis. She married Lawrence Townsend on December 25, 1934 in Ithaca, MI. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1988. Leora then married Donald Stone on July 20, 1989 and he preceded her in death in 1995. Leora was a life member of the Order of Eastern Stars, a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and a long time 4-H Leader. She worked as a switchboard operator at the Remus telephone office until it closed. She then took a job as a receptionist and switchboard operator at the Mt. Pleasant Home and Training Center until her retirement in 1979. Leora spent her retirement traveling to every state in the United States and later wintered in Mission, Texas. She attended the Pine River Methodist Church in Blanchard and most recently the Free Methodist Church in Millbrook until going into the Masonic Home. Leora is survived by her children: Lawrence A. (Mary Jane) Townsend of Saginaw, MI, Linda E. (Charles) Howard, Blanchard, MI, Leslie (Kelli) Townsend of Shelby Twp. MI, Lester (Sharon) Townsend of Roseville, MI, ten Grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren. Memorial services for Leora will be held at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton on Monday, March 8th at 1:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends one hour prior (Noon to 1PM). Memorial donations in Leora's name can be made to the Masonic Home in Alma.
