Helen P. Root, age 78, of Barryton/Remus, passed into Gods care on Sunday, January 1, 2017 in Mt. Pleasant at the Woodland Hospice House. Helen was born at home in Sherman Twp., Isabella Co., MI, on December 16, 1938, to Francis and Bertha (Terry) Blodgett. Helen married Eugene L. Root on September 1, 1956 in Barryton. They made their home in Flint and raised their family there for 40 years before moving back home in 1996. Helen loved the Lord and her family deeply. She had a way of making you feel like you were very special and brightened your day even when she was not feeling well. Helen only met a stranger once. She loved to see people meet their full potential and encouraged them to do so. She enjoyed the little things in life. She was a very generous and compassionate woman who was talented beyond measure. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, building wedding cakes, flower arranging and most anything that takes creative talent. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered for numerous years at the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Flint. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eugene; children, Dale (Cathy) Root of Farwell, Donna (Harry) Daniels of Swanton, OH; daughter-in-law, Susan Root of Millington; 9 grandchildren, Angela (Phillip) Swaim, Rob (Angie) Root, Harry (Kate) Daniels, Joshua (Summer) Daniels, Timothy (Kylee) Daniels, Steven (Lindsay) Daniels, Jamie (Dan) Brandle, Tammy (Adam) Simon and Bryon (Lesa) Root; 14 great-grandchildren, Mason, Mica and Molly Swaim, Milo and Guy Root, Haven, Kayzlin, Claire, and Ezra Daniels, Shane and Jasmine Brandle, Kathryn Simon, Karoline and Abigail Root; 3 siblings, Alice Warren of Marana, AZ, Don Blodgett of Sweet Home, OR and Kathy Sopsock of Gladstone, MI and many endeared extended family members and close friends who will continue to remember Helens infectious smile and hold the memories they have close to their hearts. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Eugene L. Root Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Simon and Titus Daniels; siblings, Terry Blodgett and Janet Pianga; and her parents Francis and Bertha. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Barryton Church of God where she attended church for several years. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 6, 2016 at the Church of God with Pastor Gary Bryan officiating. Interment will be at Sherman City Cemetery.
