Obituary

Helen, age 86, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Metron of Big Rapids. Helen was born Feb. 1, 1925, the sixth of ten children born to Howard and Louise (Ostrander) Batt in Dollarville, Michigan. Helen's sisters, Dolores Baker of Cadillac and Marilyn (Marion) Rutherford of Galesburg survive her. Helen's other siblings were Darrell, Inez, Audley, Alton, Eldred, Eleanor, and William. Her siblings blessed her life with many nieces and nephews and their children who will miss their Aunt Helen. Helen was the loving mother of six children, Jerrilynn (Bud) Strong of Barryton, Cheryl Forcia of Lansing, John (Deborah) Niedzielski of Remus, Mary (Joe) Bechaz of Big Rapids, Jeffrey (Lori) Niedzielski of Big Rapids, Kelli (Todd) Hickman of Marcellus; and four step-children Linda (John) Abbott of Farwell, Marcia (Otto) Burmeister of Clare, Paula (Gary) Finney of Barryton and Larry (1988) and his wife Nancy (2011) Myers who both preceded Helen and a step-half daughter, Danya (Allen) Daily of CO. Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilbur Bass who passed away during WW II, John August Niedzielski Jr. whom she married in 1946 and passed away in 1955. In 1956, she married Russell Myers. Russ and Helen moved from Cadillac to Russ' hometown of Barryton in 1958 with their children. Helen was a homemaker while Russ worked road construction. As the children grew and left home, Helen took a job at Evart Products for 16 years retiring in early 1987 when Russ' health began to fail. Russ passed away from cancer in October of 1987. Helen's family provided her with an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren to love, nurture and tease. She had thirty-eight (38) grandchildren, fifty-seven (57) great grandchildren and ten (10) great great grandchildren. Her grandsons: Johnny Abbott, Otto Burmeister, Gary Neil Finney and Anthony Cook and a great-great granddaughter Paisley Drew Finney also preceded Helen. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 19th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Funeral Home. The family asks that those wishing to make contributions in lieu of flowers do so to the Mecosta County Commission on Aging in Helen's name.
