Helen J. Corey, age 85 of Big Rapids, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025 with her family by her side. She was born February 26, 1939 in Greenville, the daughter of Henry and Gladys (Elwell) Howell. Helen married Daniel Corey on May 2, 1958 and together they raised their family in Big Rapids, Paris and Belding, MI.

She was a foster parent for many years and was a blessing to all the children who were a part of her home. She enjoyed cooking for all (especially goulash!), reading her Amish novels, and being a part of the Woodville Birthday Club. She enjoyed her flowers and the color purple! She had a special love for Christmas and enjoyed lighting up their home, and yard, with Christmas lights! She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had a special way of giving all of us advice and could be known as being a little sassy!

She is survived by her husband Daniel and their 8 children: Ron (Lee) Weller of Big Rapids, Char (Jerry) Cornell of Leroy, Dan (Tammie) Corey of Greenville, Bill (Melissa) Corey of Ocala, Fl, Roger (Lisa) Corey of Paris, Jannene (Carl) Platz of Reed City, along with their two adopted children Derek Corey and Michelle Corey; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Jerry(Pat) Howell of Paris; one sister Marie Wright of Paris; many nieces and nephews; plus numerous other children Dan and Helen have raised.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Howell; and sisters, Dorothy Clark and Reva Clark.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2024, 10:30 am, at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Helen's grandson, Pastor Ron Weller, officiating. The family will greet friends starting at 9:30am prior to the 10:30 am service at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held at the follow to share memories, stories, and celebrate the life and love of Helen with her family. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
