Obituary

Heidi Lee Trathen Horan, 56 of Big Rapids, died November 4, 2014 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born June 15, 1958 in Mt. Clemens the daughter of Jack and Avis (Ollila) Trathen. Heidi graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1976 and was employed by Old Kent Bank. In 1990 she was employed by the City of Big Rapids, for 24 years, as a Finance Utilities Clerk. Heidi was well respected and committed to her job until the day of her hospitalization. On June 16, 1977 she married Thomas E. Horan and they have lived in Big Rapids their entire married life. Heidi's purpose in life was to enjoy the love of her life, Tom, her beautiful children and grandchildren. They were the main purpose of her life and all that she lived for. This amazing woman fought the cancer battle so she might enjoy family just a little bit longer and she enclosed them in her loving arms and they returned that love unconditionally. Heidi was a shining example to others who battled this disease by her commitment to the treatment program and encouraged many to do so. Her wonderful sense of humor, kindness, joy of life and fine Christian values will always be remembered by her families, co-workers and many friends. It certainly was an honor and privilege to know her and to have her as part of our family. Surviving are; her husband, Tom; one son, Tommy and his wife Melanie; one daughter, Jenilee and her husband, Rob Olson; grandchildren, Layla and Scarlett Olson; Landon and Grayson Horan; her mother, Avis Trathen of Grand Rapids; sisters, Lynelle (William) Dodge, Mary (Charles) Calisto; a brother, Robert (Pat) Trathen; brothers-in-law, Bob III (Lynn) Horan, Paul Horan; sisters-in-law, Marcia (Rex) Schuberg and Maria (William) Stewart; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Dolores Horan; aunts, Patricia Horan, Carol Tasker, Joyce Conley and Josephine (Dave) Conley and many nieces and nephews. Heidi was preceded in death by her father, John Trathen; a brother, Dennis Trathen and his wife, Linda "Bennie" Karsten Trathen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 7th at St. Mary's Catholic Parish in Big Rapids with Father Michael Burt and Father Dan DePew concelebrating.
