Hazel J. Lyle, age 89 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. She was born June 26, 1924 in Stanwood, the daughter of Salomon and Hanna (Johnsdotter) Johnson. Hazel graduated from Morley-Stanwood High School. She raised her family in Big Rapids. Hazel was employed by Ferris State University for 19 years until she retired. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, sending cards for holidays, and cared for animals. Hazel is survived by her son, Lance B. Lyle of Stanwood; a sister-in-law, Elsie Johnson and a nephew, Bob (Nadine) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burton Lyle; her daughter, Beverly Lyle and 11 brothers and sisters. A memorial service will take place 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service on August 16th, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Hazel's name to the Big Rapids Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where Hazel was a member.
