Harvey L. Blackmer of rural Barryton passed away on September 28, 2013 shortly before his 84th birthday. He was born to Lawrence and Gertrude (Meier) Blackmer of Barryton on October 7, 1929. Harvey married Neita Frantz on June 2, 1950 in Barryton. Welding was a lifelong occupation for Harvey which took him to many places across the state. He was the owner of Blackmer Welding from 1972 to 1990. He loved farming and gardening. Harvey called traditional square dance since the age of 19 until present. With Neita by his side they danced in multiple clubs, parades and festivals throughout the area. His wife of 63 years, Neita (Frantz) survives him. He is also survived by his five daughters, Diann Wassenaar of Barryton, Karen (Duane) Coville of Remus, Geaneen (Lynn) Olger of Lyons, Lois (Russ) Mann of Rochester, IN, and Lorraine (Mark) Heffner of Morris, IL; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister Katherine Lucas of Mt. Pleasant and brothers, Benjamin of Barryton, and Thomas of Mission, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Aaron and Fred, and sister's Ina Tomaszewski, Doris Lolli, Donella Spayd, Barbara VanNortwick. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 2pm at Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 1st from 5 to 7p.m. and Wednesday, October 2nd at 1pm until the time of service at 2pm at the funeral home in Barryton with Chaplain Wayne Shidler officiating. Memorial contributions in Harvey's name can be made to Heartland Hospice.
