Obituary

Harry Lee Hovis, 57, passed away in Moline, IL surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. He was born to Cecil and Murriel (DeWeese) Hovis on February 2, 1953 in Ypsalanti, MI. He graduated from Morley Stanwood High School and had been a welder for most of his adult life. His positive attitude was an inspiration to many and his desire to help his fellow man was unwavering. Harry was a true family man, always helping to plow out his loved ones drives in the winter, playing with his grandchildren or helping his numerous friends with their projects. He loved hunting, fishing with his grandchildren and was an avid cook. Harry, who never met a stranger, will be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryll Hovis of Morley, Mandy Hovis of Grand Rapids and Dawn Hovis of Stanwood; Grandchildren, Lexia Hovis, Damiane Lawton, Aprilann Welch, Ashley Welch and his great-granddaughter Olivia Romero; sisters, Alice (David) Cox of Moline, IL, Diana (Mike) Curtis of Spring Lake, MI; brothers Cecil (Barb) Hovis of Milan, IL, John (Jenny) Hovis of Wichita Falls, TX, Tom (Diane) Hovis of Moorehead, KY and Gary (Cindy) Hovis of MI; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins that he loved dearly. Special friends Jackie Maranda, Kate Smith and Pastor Chris Cain all of the Quad Cities, IL, Jay Griffes of Morley, MI, Dale Peck of Coopersville, MI, Artie Freiburger of Newaygo, MI and too all of his friends close to home and far away. Harry was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the family greeting friends from Noon until 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Aetna Twp. Cemetery in Morley.
