Harry J. Herman, 92 of Coldwater Twp., went home to be with his Lord, on Thursday, June 30, 2016 in Grand Rapids. Harry was born, June 17, 1924, the youngest child of Ervin and Nellie (Baldwin) Herman in Sears, MI. Harry graduated from Weidman High School in 1942 and was soon drafted into the United States Army 28th Infantry Division where he was sent to the European Theatre until the end of WWII. On February 9, 1945, while on furlough, he came home and married his sweetheart, Virginia Boger. In 1954 Harry became clerk at the Weidman Post Office and 10 years later became post master. He retired in 1985. Harry was actively involved in the community. He was a member of the Weidman United Methodist Church and Weidman Lions Club, a volunteer with Red Cross Blood Drives, and helped drive for the Mt. Pleasant Soup Kitchen. Harry is survived by: his beloved wife of 71 years, Virginia; one son, Thomas (Sallie) Herman of Lake Isabella; two grandchildren, Christine (Jim) McFarlane of Mt. Pleasant and John (Amber) Herman of Weidman; three great-grandchildren, Maggie McFarlane, Zachary and Hanna Herman; sister-in- law, Pauline (Boger) Estes and brother-in-law Ralph Turnbull; and many extended family members and friends who will continue to treasure the memories they hold. Harry was preceded in death by: his parents, an infant brother, Virgil; a brother, Cleve; and five sisters, Cleda, Ruby, Pearl, Nettie and Eula May. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Weidman United Methodist Church (3200 N. Woodruff Rd.) with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 PM to 8 PM, on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton (19238 30th Ave.) and two hours prior to the funeral service 11 AM to 1 PM at the church.
