ELLISON - Harry Ellison, age 80, of Stanwood, passed away on Tuesday, April 21st, surrounded by his loving family; devoted wife of 60 years, Gladys; and children, Nancy (Larry Medendorp) Kik, Larry (Carol) Ellison, Donna (Bob) Clark, Sue (Ron) Galer, Chris Higley; son-in-law Dan Higley. He was blessed with 11 wonderful grandchildren, and 14 entertaining great-grandchildren. Mr. Ellison is also survived by a brother, Lester (Joyce) Ellison; sister, June (Bob) Spedowski and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Ellison and two brothers, Donald and Bob Ellison. Harry was employed as a meat cutter at Blackport Packing in Grand Rapids for 25 years. He established and operated Northern Meats in Stanwood for 10 years and then was employed at Ferris State University until his retirement. Harry was a member of Eagles Aerie # 2535 in Big Rapids, a charter member of Eagles Buffalo Aerie # 4360 of Stanwood and a life member of the Casino Club in Grand Rapids. Harry had a love for life and people. He adored spending time with his children and grandchildren. He spent much time entertaining; pig roasts and decorating for holidays were his specialties. Harry was also an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. The funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Saturday, April 25th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home, 13985 Northland Drive in Big Rapids with Deacon Richard Dubridge officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with his family at the funeral home on Friday, April 24th, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be at the Stanwood Cemetery.
