Harry D. Conley, age 81 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 following a brief battle with cancer. He was born April 25, 1930 in the city of Salyersville, Magoffin County, Kentucky, the son of Worth and Louise Conley. As a child the family moved to Big Rapids where Harry married Joyce Jensen on July 7, 1951. He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in Korea. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Harry returned to Big Rapids to raise his family. He worked for Mich-Con, in the Six Lakes Station and the Austin Gas Fields. Harry later began a 30 year career at Triangle Auto in Big Rapids where he was the parts and service manager. He was a lifetime member of Eagles Aerie #2535 of Big Rapids, a 32nd degree Mason and a life member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Harry was a dedicated family man; he will be forever remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce; three children, Marc (Deb) Conley of Big Rapids, Vicki (Pat) Gerding of Pogy Lake, Tim (Kristin) Conley of Big Rapids; 7 grandchildren, Justin Gerding, Ryan (Myndy) Gerding, Jamison (Sarah) Conley, Bryan, Allison, Brittany and Casey Conley; 5 great-grandchildren, Bela, Thatcher and Hailey Conley, Kanin and Marley Gerding; 2 brothers, David (Josie) Conley of Rodney, Roger (Pam) Conley of Versailles, Kentucky; a sister, Dolores (Robert Jr.) Horan of Big Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harry was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Walter K. Conley and a niece, Lori Conley. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Clay Bates officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Harry's name be given to either the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
