Harold "Doug" Brand, age 68, of Barryton, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was born on May 7, 1956, in Ionia, Michigan, the son of Harold Maynard and Joanne (Corwin) Brand. Doug graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in 1974.
Doug proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army from 1975 to 1977. He achieved the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5) while serving with the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was proud to be part of the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles."
Doug married the love of his life, LouAnne, with whom he shared 38 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2022. He pursued a variety of careers, including owning Barryton NAPA, working as a private investigator for Jay's Trucks and Associates, and taking positions at Dent's Garage and Lakeside Motors. Most recently, he served as treasurer for Fork Township, where he found joy and purpose. Dougs dedication to his community earned him many lifelong friendships.
Doug had a passion for cars, especially Corvettes, and enjoyed working on them, collecting model cars, and attending races. Whether it was fixing engines or cruising around his property on his golf cart, Doug was happiest when surrounded by anything mechanical. He also enjoyed feeding the birds, cooking, and baking. His family cherished his homemade treats, including chocolate-covered cherries, coconut creams, chocolate cake, and his famous and grandchildren's favorite, chicken and dumplings.
Doug is survived by his stepchildren, John Jr. (Becky) Zimmerman and Monica (Pat) Brooks; grandchildren, Grace, Aiden, and Elizabeth; special friends, Lori and Steve Helmer; sister-in-law, Susan Hansen; brother-in-law, Ken Fenton; aunts and uncles: Lila Campbell, Rolland Brand, Eugene (Joan) Brand, Jullee (Michael) Vest, George Corwin, and Nancy Corwin; along with many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife LouAnne, aunts and uncles Marie (Bud) Spencer, James (Joyce) Brand, James Campbell, Nathlie Brand, and his loyal dog companion, Charlie.
