Gregory G. Stirn, age 61 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at home. He was born October 20, 1950 in Rushville, Indiana, the son of Charles E. and Bonnie R. (Cauble) Stirn. Greg graduated from St. Joseph High School in Ironton, Ohio and soon after moved to Big Rapids. He worked for the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department in the corrections division and went on to earn his Road Deputy certification. In 2005 he retired after 20 years of service to Mecosta County and has since stayed busy helping Roxanne at Szot's Bar and Grill in Big Rapids. Those who knew Greg knew he lived and breathed "Ohio State" ; he was one of their most loyal fans. He also enjoyed playing golf and his years working as a referee for High School Basketball. He will be forever missed by his loving family including his beloved Roxanne, with whom he shared his life for the past 20 years; his son, Adam Stirn of Green Bay, Wisconsin; his mother, Bonnie Stirn of Big Rapids; his sisters, Marti Cronk of Grand Rapids, Barb Gall of Big Rapids, Kathy (Joe) Garner of Big Rapids; brothers, Steve (Anne) Stirn of Columbus, Ohio, Jeff Stirn of Big Rapids, Pete (Pam) Stirn of Midland, Chris (Melissa) Stirn of Remus; Roxanne's family, Barb and Larry Pratt of Grand Rapids, Brenda and Pete Winter of Paris and many nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Stirn, his father, Charles Stirn, his sister-in-law, Sherri Stirn and Roxanne's brother, Rick Bishop. A memorial gathering for Greg will take place Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for family and friends at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
