Obituary

Grace Sanderson, 92, of Blanchard, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Valdosta, Georgia.

She was born on October 12, 1932, in Carson City, the daughter of Rowatt and Hazel (Farrand) Taylor. Grace graduated from Blanchard High School in 1951 and went on to pursue a meaningful career in education. She taught in Shields and later in Remus, where she touched the lives of countless students with her dedication, compassion, and unwavering love for helping others.

On June 6, 1954, she married the love of her life, Dick Sanderson. They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2014. Together, they lived lives of quiet service—always giving, often without being asked. Grace and Dick were longtime supporters of God's Helping Hands and were deeply involved in their church and community. For nearly 40 years she worked alongside her husband to make Sanderson's Furniture, a destination worth the drive to Millbrook. As a couple they shared many hobbies. Over the years they enjoyed activities such as golfing, square dancing, and line dancing. There were opportunities for trips abroad, but the lifelong favorite place to return to was the Mackinaw area where they honeymooned. Grace loved to entertain and had a gift for hospitality. She expressed her love for others by providing an abundance of food. Whether it was a holiday or just dropping by there was always more than enough and always room for one more.

She was also an avid Detroit Pistons and Detroit Tigers fan. Grace was always keeping up on her favorite teams. Whether she was going to spring training games in Florida, or out to eat with friends and family she always had to check the score to see how the game was going.

Grace is survived by her daughters: Ruth (Dana Johnson) Sanderson and Susan Bradley; Grandchildren: Kevin Mahlich and Erin Fleser; Seven great grandchildren: Mackenzie Fleser, Cody Fleser, Logan Fleser, Isaac Mahlich, Casey Mahlich, Trysten Allred, and Zander Christensen; One great-great grandson: Asher Miller; Brother: Marion Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Sanderson; her parents; and her brothers, Paul, Malcolm, Lawrence, Dean; sister: Pauline.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday May 31, 2025, 1:00 P.M. at the Millbrook Free Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. A graveside service and luncheon will follow. She will be laid to rest at Decker Cemetery, Blanchard. Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Barryton.
