Gordon V. Turner age 87, a lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, April 23, 2022 following a yearlong battle with congestive heart failure. At his side was his wife of over 68 years, Donna Jean Turner (Wilson), his son Phil, and many other family members. He was born on April 8, 1935, the son of Floyd and Cecile (Munroe) Turner.
Gordon is best described as a hard-working man and good supporter of the Big Rapids community; generous to everyone he knew and a dedicated blood donor. He worked for 30 years at the Mecosta County Road Commission, also worked at Magna-Lock, Roy Myers RediMix, and Morningstar Excavating. He had his own snowplowing business and poured cement in the summer. Gordy was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2535 and the Mecosta County Rod & Gun Club; also served in the Big Rapids Little League for a time. He was a supporter of both Big Rapids and Morley Stanwood athletics especially while his granddaughters were participating, willing to travel around the state to attend their games.
Gordon is survived by his wife Donna, one son Philip (Jill) Turner of Cedar Springs, son-in-law Randy Lentz, brother Keith (Zonetta) Totten of Lakeland, Florida, granddaughters Kimberlee Turner of Kalamazoo, Kara (fianc Alex) Turner of Chicago, Kelly (fianc Dash) Lentz of California, Katy (Mark) OBryan of Maryland, Sarah (Andrew) Dicks of Grand Rapids, Ashley (Andy) Mulder of Galesburg, Sarah Turner of Paris, and Jake Turner of Lakeview, and great-grandchildren Avalynn Mulder and Preston Dicks. He also has a special cousin Sandi Brown, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Diane, son Jack, brother Norm, parents Floyd and Cecile Turner, and many in-laws.
Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm with a Funeral Service to start at 12 pm (NOON). Graveside services will follow immediately afterward, with a luncheon beginning at 1 pm at the Big Rapids Eagles Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Big Rapids Eagles #2535, the Mecosta County Rod & Gun Club, or Spectrum Health Hospice of Big Rapids.
