Gordon Lee Knopf, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2015 in Grand Rapids. Gordon was born on June 11, 1949, in Big Rapids to Lawrence and Donna Belle (Mumah) Knopf. Gordon graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1967. He married Julia Ann Williams in 1968 and they made their home in Big Rapids where they raised their children. Gordy was an avid sportsman and fisherman. He loved sports especially the Detroit Tigers and coaching little league for many years. Gordy was close to his entire family, especially his four grandchildren which he adored. Gordon worked in the grocery business for 35 years at Giant. He started at age 16 as a bag boy and made his way up to meat manager. He is survived by his wife Julia; one son, James (Jenny) Knopf of Big Rapids, one daughter; Jennifer (Donald) Maginnis of Big Rapids; four grandchildren; Lauren and Leah Maginnis, Emma and Fredrick Knopf; Five Brothers; Larry (Linda) Knopf of Gaylord, Jon Knopf of Rodney, Denny (Deb) Knopf of Big Rapids, Fred (Mary) Knopf of Sears, Tim (Deb) Knopf of Dover, OH; one sister Sally (Mike) Depew of Big Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Daryl Lyn Knopf and sister in law Lyddie (Douglas) Knopf.
