Gordon J. Katz, age 75 of Barryton, formerly of Lansing and Battle Creek, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 in Lansing. He was born September 27, 1932 in Battle Creek to Fred and Ruth (Flanders) Katz. In the 50's Gordon went to Michigan State University and became an avid Spartans fan. He made Lansing his home and worked for 38 years at Oldsmobile where he was a supervisor and machine repairman. Gordon has enjoyed his cottage at Diamond Lake since the early 70's and made it his permanent home in 1990. He was a former board member and was involved with the Oldsmobile outdoor club for numerous years. He was a former member of the moose lodge and enjoyed being a softball umpire for several years. Gordon was an avid bowler and loved golf, hunting, and fishing. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Sandy Katz of Barryton, three children: Cindy (Jay) Theil of Reno, NV Derek (Dawn) of Battle Creek and Kevin (Dee) of Battle Creek, three stepchildren: Debra (Robert) Chamberlain of St. Johns Vanessa (Lynn) Warner of St. Johns and Jill (Leo) Drinkwine of Alden, four additional stepchildren: Cynthia, Cathy, Rammie and Tim, 5 sisters and brothers: Norma (Richard) Waterbury, Kathryn (Hugh) White, Stanley (Julie), Gary (Connie)and Norm (Marsha) Katz, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter Janice and 2 grandsons. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with interment at Strong Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday from 2-4p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Gordon's name may be made to MI Wild Turkey Hunters Ass., St. Jude's Children Hospital, or Sparrow Hospice House.
