Canadian Lakes, Mich. "" Gloria Boyland Reed, formerly of the Chicago area and Portage, MI, passed away peacefully at her beloved home in Canadian Lakes, MI on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Gloria was born on April 26, 1939 in Chicago to Alise and James Boyland. She was a proud graduate of the University of Illinois and a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. On February 18, 1961, Gloria married Ted Reed in Mount Prospect, IL and cherished nearly fifty years of marriage. Gloria was active in the community and an avid gardener and golfer. She loved singing with the Melody Makers chorus in Canadian Lakes. She practiced her unwavering faith with her membership at New Hope United Methodist Church. Planning menus and cooking for many family gatherings at her treasured lakeside home was another favorite pastime. Gloria cherished any opportunity to attend her grandchildren's activities, just as she and Ted had done with their four daughters. Their grandchildren were the love of Gloria's life and a great source of pride and joy. She made each grandchild feel special and made a point to spend time with each individually. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and her dear mother-in-law, Margaret Reed. Gloria is survived by her husband, Ted, who could always make her laugh and who lovingly cared for her during her long illness. Also surviving are her four daughters: Barb Reed of Plainwell, MI; Sue Riemland (Jim) of Saint Joseph, MI; Chris Greissinger (Kurt) of Saint Joseph, MI; and Cindy Bertke (Matt) of Rockford, MI and her six grandchildren: Matthew and Michael Riemland, Trevor and Tacy Greissinger, and Jake and Holly Bertke. She is also survived by a sister, Alise Ralston, of South Pasadena, CA and many close relatives and dear friends. According to Gloria's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
