Glenn Norton passed away on April 1, 2026 after a brief illness. He was born the second child of Roy and Mable Kelly Norton, on April 3, 1927 in Big Rapids. He attended school in Big Rapids and was drafted into the Army in 1945. He was discharged December 10, 1946 and was very proud of his military service. After discharge he married Arlois E. Godbold on October 23, 1948 and they were married for 56 years.
Glenn spent 33 years working for ANR pipeline and retired in 1985. He and Arlois traveled a lot including a dream trip to Alaska. He was a member of Elks Lodge 974 for over 65 years. He served as Exalted Ruler of BPOE 974 and District Deputy of the Elks West Central District in 1982-83. Glenn was also a member of American Legion Post 98 and Am Vets Post 1941 for many years. In addition, his hobbies were hunting and fishing at the Mosquito Ranch (Baldwin) and Blockhouse (U.P). He also liked playing cribbage mornings at Szots.
Glenn served the community in many ways. He was a referee for football and basketball for many years. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and MCCOA doing home improvement projects and delivering Meals on Wheels for many years.
Glenn was preceeded in death by his wife Arlois, daughter Julie, brother Guy, sisters Cleo and Mildred as well as his parents. He was also preceeded by many brothers and sisters in laws.
Surviving Glenn is his daughter Carol (Gary) Bennett, his sister Alice Douse, grandson Brian (Brandy) Bennett, granddaughter Dawn (Everardo) Puentes, great grandchildren Brenden Bennett, and Ava and Xavier Puentes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14th, 2026 at St. James Parish, 5149 Dowling St, Montague MI with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery, Mill Pond Rd, Big Rapids at 2pm Tuesday, April 14th 2026. Memorial Contributions can be made to Mecosta County Commission on Aging. The address is : 12954 80th Ave, Mecosta MI 49332.
