Glen "Pat" C. Alber Jr., age 75 lifetime resident of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, July 6, 2007. He was born March 4, 1932 in Big Rapids to Glen C. and Melvina (Fuller) Alber Sr. Pat graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1950 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He married Laura Ann Hansen on February 23, 1952 and together they made their home in Big Rapids. Pat worked as a police officer for the Big Rapids City Police Department for over 31 years, serving as their Chief for the last 13 years of his career. He retired in 1989. Pat was very active in the Big Rapids community belonging to several clubs and associations including; the BPO Elks Lodge # 947, the Michigan Association of Police Chiefs, the Mecosta County Community Corrections Board and the Board of Review for the City of Big Rapids. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. Since his retirement, Pat became a dedicated member of Currie's Coffee Club, where he helped solve many of the world's problems. Pat is survived by his wife of 55 years, Laura Alber of Big Rapids Daughter: Sue (Paul) Vickery of Grand Rapids, Son: Patrick (Vicki) Alber of Rodney, Four Grandchildren; Allison, Daniel, Anna and Jacob,Two brothers: Jack (Marge) Alber of Stanwood,Frank Alber of Hastings,Two Sisters: Nancy Barnett of Independence, Missouri,Connie (Tom) Moore of Cody, Wyoming,and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with burial at Highland View Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Sunday, July 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday July 9th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Pat's name may be made to the Big Rapids Elks Club for their many worthy charities.
