Ellison-(Fish)-Gladys Ellison, age 87, of Stanwood, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family; Nancy Kik, Larry (Carol) Ellison, Donna (Bob) Clark, Sue (Ron) Galer, Chris Higley, Dave Nowlin. She is blessed with 11 wonderful grandchildren and 21 entertaining great-grandchildren. Ms. Ellison is also survived by her brother-in-law, James McElheny and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry Ellison, parents, Lawrence and Lucille Fish, brother Raymond Fish, sister-in-law Patricia Fish and sister, Virginia McElheny. Gladys was a wonderful housewife for many years before she and Harry established and opened Northern Meats in Stanwood for 10 years, she was then employed at Giant Way until her retirement. Gladys was a member of the Casino Club in Grand Rapids and the Eagles Buffalo Aerie #4360 of Stanwood. Gladys had a place in her heart for everyone and enjoyed nothing more than gatherings with her family. She had a knack for entertaining and enjoyed sewing and quilting for her family. Boating, reading and watching the birds brought her much joy, but nothing brought a smile to her face as much as wine tasting with all her girls. Gladys also loved spending many hours watching her grandchildren play sports. Gladys made many friends during her stay at Villa Maria in Grand Rapids. Playing Bingo was among one of her favorite activities there. Her wish was to move back home to spend her final days being cared for by her family. The family would like to extend their gratefulness to everyone at Spectrum Hospice and offer special thanks to Dave Nowlin. Words cannot express how thankful we are for all the loving kindness, support, laughter and gentle care provided to Gladys and her family. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Deacon Rick Dubridge officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday, April 8th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Gladys will be laid to rest at the Stanwood Cemetery.
