Gilbert A. "Gil" Macgregor, age 87 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018. He was born June 23, 1931 in Grand Rapids, the son of Robert and Ruth (Gilbert) Macgregor. Gil graduated from South High School in Grand Rapids in 1949. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Gil moved to Big Rapids in 1976 and was employed as an insurance salesman. He was a member of the Reed City Moose Lodge 705, Big Rapids Eagles Aerie 2535, Big Rapids American Legion Post 98 and Honor Guard, and Big Rapids AmVets Post 1941. Gil had his private pilots license and had a passion for flying and restoring antique airplanes. He was also a talented woodworker. Gil is survived by his son, Gary (Marlene) Macgregor of Clarksville; special friend, Mary LeBoeuf of Big Rapids; as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Pomeroy. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Big Rapids AmVets Post 1941.
