Geraldine A. "Gerry" Barrett, age 86 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born April 18, 1931 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Glenn and Francis (Gregg) Blakeslee. Gerry graduated from Kelloggsville High School in Grand Rapids in 1950. She married Harold Edward "Ed" Barrett on June 30, 1951 in Grand Rapids. Together they raised their family while Ed pastored six different churches throughout the North Michigan Conference of the Free Methodist Church. Gerry enjoyed helping Ed work within the different churches he served. She liked making crafts and spending time with children. Gerry will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Tim) Scott of Bridgeport, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Linda Barrett of Zeeland; grandson, Craig (Stephanie) Barrett; "granddaughter", Heather Kutie; five great-grandsons; step-granddaughter, Kelly Hellenthal; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna Hula of Comstock Park and Lorena (Stan) Gregory of LeRoy; and many nieces and nephews. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed Barrett in 2011, son Larry Barrett in 2013, and two brothers, Gilbert and Gordon Blakeslee. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. March 31, 2018 at the Stanwood Free Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Bullock and Reverend Ron VanSyckle officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 30th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the Church. Gerry will be laid to rest at the Stanwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Gerrys name to the Stanwood Free Methodist Church.
