Gerald R. "Jerry" Martiny, age 84 of Rodney, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 with his loving family at his side. He was born November 8, 1933 in Big Rapids the son of George and Mildred (Seaman) Martiny. Jerry graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School. He married the former Joyce Ann Cox on October 15, 1955 and they made their home near Rodney. Jerry was a full time farmer while also working at the Lewis Fox Farm and later transitioning to the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline where he worked until retirement from the then, ANR Pipeline. Jerry loved everything about his farm. He enjoyed tractor pulling, planting a garden and then canning all that it produced. Jerry was an avid and accomplished deer hunter; he liked to ice fish and to go camping, as it was cherished time he could spend with his beloved family. He was a lifetime member of the Chippewa Lake Community Church. Jerry will be forever missed by his family, including his two children son, Randy (Krista) Martiny of Rodney, daughter, Cindy (Gregg) Sanders of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Dennis, Bobby Porter, Sandra (Greg Ayuk) Porter, Olivia Sanders, Nathan Sanders; step-grandson, Chad (Casi) Hilliard; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Kallen and Evieann Dennis, Mekhi Ayuk; step-great-granddaughter, Hunter Hilliard; his mother-in-law, Ellen Cox; two sisters-in-law, Rayleen (Tom) Lawler of Saginaw, Kathleen Thomas of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce Ann on November 12, 2012 and his daughter Sandy Martiny. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bart and Vic Martiny and Donna Jean Brown. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Roger Bennett officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest at the Martiny Township Cemetery in Rodney. The family will greet friends Sunday, October 28th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Monday.
