George E. Mulder, age 80, of Barryton died Thursday, May 25, 2023. He was born May 5, 1943 in Harbor Springs, the son of Edward and Marie (Brown) Mulder. George graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1961. He married Margaret Johnson in 1962 in Harbor Springs until she passed in 2001. George worked for General Motors for 32 years as a Millwright; when machinery couldnt be fixed George was always the one to handle the repairs. Throughout Georges life he opened his heart and home to the many children he fostered. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and was an excellent carpenter. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading books about Alaska, Canada, and science fiction. George always had to keep busy; his way of bonding with family was building and working with your hands. He was respected by everyone and will be missed by many. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 20 years, Sue of Barryton; sons, Destry Mulder of Grand Rapids, Tim (Fran) Mulder of Seattle, WA, Matt (Shanda) Mulder of Bend, OR, Martin (Erica Fitzhenry) Mulder of Mt. Pleasant, Devon Mulder of Mt. Pleasant; step-daughters, Kay (David) Gross of Greenville, NC, Kim (Dennis) Wassenaar of Coleman; grandchildren, Brett, Abbie, Brody, Keirra, Lacy, Justin, Brittini, John, Ajay, Patrick; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild on the way; many nieces and nephews; and lots of foster children. George was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Margaret Mulder; and grandparents Georgiana and Ira Mulder. Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with visitation an hour prior. Officiating, Pastor Eric Kelsey. George will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs. Memorial contributions may be made in Georges name to the Salvation Army or Steadfast Baptist Church.
