George Louis Monty passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2024, with his loving partner, Ovamarie Wood, by his side. George was born on February 13, 1939, in Detroit, MI to Arthur and Marie (Lancial) Monty. After graduating from Denby High School in Detroit, he worked in the manufacturing industry. On September 28, 1963, he married Linda Pomaville and they originally settled down in the east side of Detroit, eventually putting down roots outside of Big Rapids MI to raise their three children. George worked for over 20 years for the Reed City Public Schools and was known for his quiet, loving yet authoritative nature. He was a giving man all his life, acting as a Eucharistic minister at his church, serving as a union representative at the schools, and happily doing odd jobs for people when they needed the help. He also honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the United States National Guard Army Reserves.
George is survived by Ovamarie, his three children: Catherine Wells (Carl Nelson) of Grand Rapids, MI, Patricia (Dennis) Jones of Roachdale, IN, and James (Kristina) Monty of Cottonwood Height, UT; his grandchildren: Nicholas (Erin) Wells, Alexander (Sarah) Wells, Amber (Jake) Jones-Somers, and Micayla (Chase) Jones-Murphy; his great-granddaughter: Flora Somers; Ovamarie's children: Carrie Fluette and Matthew Wood and their families; his sisters-in-law: Joan Monty of St. Clair Shores, MI and Rosemarie Spence of Big Rapids, MI and their families; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and others. He was preceded in death by his first wife Linda and his parents, his son-in-law Roger Wells, his brother Joseph Monty, in-laws Nancy and Vernice Campau and Cordell Logan, his brothers Edward and Paul Croo, and sister Germaine Croo.
