Genevieve Ann "Gen" Abrams, age 58 of Mecosta, went into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 15, 2022 after battling cancer for a third time. Gen was born November 22, 1963 in Detroit to the late William and Genevieve M. (Smith) Peterson. She graduated in 1981 from Herbert Henry Dow High School in Midland. Gen attended Adrian College where she studied psychology, earning a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in 1985. She later furthered her education by taking nursing classes at Mid Michigan Community College. One of Gens many passions was providing services to people, which she did as a Regional Director at Lutheran Social Services of Michigan and, most recently, as an Outreach Worker at Mecosta County Commission on Aging. On April 6, 2002 Gen married Stephen "Steve" Abrams in Freeland with Steves father joining them as husband and wife. She considered herself a child of God and attended Resurrection Life Church Big Rapids. Being active in ministry was extremely important to her. Gen was a 412 Leader, was active in the Lutheran Womens Missionary League (LWML), volunteered with Angels of Action, and so much more! Helping others and encouraging people to #SpeakLife were most important to Gen. She enjoyed painting, flower and vegetable gardening, decorating her home and yard, spending time with her furbabies, making the most of every day, and had a love of music - especially praise and worship music. Gen is survived by her husband Steve, who she called the most wonderful man in the world; stepson Daniel and his wife Alison Abrams, of St. Louis, MO, who lovingly refer to her as "My Gen"; stepmother Joyce "Ma" Abrams, of Oregon, WI; stepsister Deborah "Deb" and her husband Kevin Groehler of Oregon, WI; as well as extended family. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 12:00 noon Saturday February 19, 2022 at Resurrection Life Church Big Rapids, MI. Doors will open at 11am to visit with friends and family. Memorial contributions may be made in Gens name to Resurrection Life Church Big Rapids to be used to help fund ministries against sex trafficking.
