Gary A. Swier, age 77, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Royal View Retirement Community. He was born May 20, 1943 in Grand Haven, the son of Mike and Pauline (Page) Hirdes. Gary graduated from Grand Haven High School and later attended Ferris State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.

He met Terry Britten Borstler in 1969 and they were married in October of that year. They made their home in the Grand Rapids area where Gary was employed by General Motors as a cost accountant. Later Gary and his family moved to Spain, New York, and Davison, Michigan. Following retirement, Gary and Terry were delighted to settle at Horsehead Lake in Mecosta, Michigan. He was an active member in various organizations throughout Mecosta County including Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation and the Horsehead Lake Association where he served a couple of terms as President, as well as holding various positions on the Park, Township, and County Boards.

Gary is survived by his wife, Terry; two sons, Paul (Rachel) Swier of St. Louis, Missouri and Chris (Kate) Swier of Remus; 5 grandchildren, Maddie, Amelia, Jacob, Allma and Ila; also surviving are several nieces, nephews and extended family. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a Memorial Visitation with the family greeting friends on Friday, May 21st from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Please wear a mask and only 25 people will be allowed at a time.

The family requests memorial contributions in Garys name be made to a favorite charity of the donors choice.
