Gary L. Stoner Sr., age 73 of Rogers Heights, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 26, 2018. He was born September 1, 1944 in Stanwood, the son of Lloyd "Dutch" and Eva (Allen) Stoner. Gary was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He married Rita Southerland on March 13, 1967 in Gary, Indiana and together they raised their family in Rogers Heights. Gary was employed by Big Rapids Products for nearly 45 years before he retired. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and camping at School Section Lake. Gary also liked to ride motorcycles and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita; three children, Edward Jr. (Gail) Ellsworth of Stanwood, Stacey Gross (Tony Jammal) of Massachusetts, and Gary Jr. (Kelly) Stoner of Hawkins; daughter-in-law, Beth Stoner of Kent City; three grandchildren, Jayson, Brandon, and Megan Stoner; many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dick Stoner and Leroy "Posey" and his wife Lila Stoner. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Rebecca Morrison officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Garys name to the family.
