Gary C. Mahaffey, age 59 of Howard City, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 6, 2008 at his home. He was born April 11, 1948 in Grand Rapids to Paul and Anita (Hansen) Mahaffey. Gary graduated from Morley-Stanwood High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. Gary worked as a superintendent for Wolverine World Wide in Rockford, retiring after 35 years of employment. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #3306 in Howard City. In his spare time Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR races and hunting. Gary is survived by his loving family of two daughters; Amelia (Greg) Klocke of Cedar Springs and Penny (Rick Lewis) Mahaffey of Newaygo,four grandchildren; Christopher Sawyer, Katie Sawyer, Alexis Klocke and Andrew Lewis. Aunt Amelia (Clair) Lower and their sons; Bob and Bill Lower of Burr Oak, MI,Aunt Ruby Arndt of Morley and her daughters; Becky, Sue, Sally and Marie Several other aunts, uncles and cousins in North Carolina and faithful companion his dog, Merlin. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister; Gail Lynn. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Dan Rickman officiating. Burial will be at Blythefield Memorial Gardens in Comstock Park. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan 10th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
