Obituary

Gary L. Kuikstra, age 75 of Morley, passed away at his home Friday, May 31, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 28, 1948 in Grand Rapids, the son of Henry and Elaine (George) Kuikstra. Gary enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He bravely served in Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts. Gary was honorably discharged in 1972 with the rank of Corporal. He worked as a machinist at General Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. Gary was an avid biker and loved being on the open road. He enjoyed working with his hands; building guitars and working with leather. His hobbies included photography and flying remote control airplanes. Gary cherished the time he spent with family and was an incredibly devoted father. He is survived by his children, Nicholas (Heather) Kuikstra and Junie Lehigh (Kuikstra); brother, James (Patti) Kuikstra; and few nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra Pratt. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends an hour before the service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Aetna Township Cemetery.
