Gary Gilbert Kane age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his home in Chippewa Lake. He was born on June 28, 1946 in Big Rapids, MI to Clare and Cora (Haney) Kane. Gary graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1965. On July 12, 1968 Gary married Irene Richardson in Detroit and they made their home and raised their family in the Detroit/Westland area. He was employed as a Hi- Lo operator by Ford Motor Company and retired in 1991. Gary was known as "Sugar Bear" by friends and co-workers. Gary and Irene moved to Chippewa Lake in 2001 where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an excellent cook and his children always looked forward to his buckwheat pancakes when they came for a visit. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Irene of Chippewa Lake; two children Christopher (Cari) Kane of Westland and Michelle (Mark) Murray of South Lyon; six beloved grandchildren who knew him as "Papa Bear" , Dakota and Wyatt Kane, Brandon Joaquin, Nathan, Nicholas and Miranda Murray; one brother Richard (Beverly) Snyder of AZ; one sister Sandra Kane of AZ; his in-laws and dear friends Sherry and Jim Solano of Evart who will continue to treasure the memories they have; two dogs whom he loved, Amber and Molly and many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara Jacob and Grace Blanchard. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th at the Chippewa Lake Community Church with Pastor Stephen Scott officiating.
