Garold E. "Gary" Smith, age 73 of Barryton, formerly of Norton Shores, MI, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 in Big Rapids, MI. He was born on January 25, 1944 to Calvin and Helene (Rossell) Smith in Mesick. Gary married Carol A. Berry in Detroit in 1968 and they made their home and raised their family in Norton Shores. For 35 years Gary taught science and periodically math at Norton Shores Middle School. He was a counselor, football coach and helped with boys and girls track and wrestling. Upon retirement they moved to their home on Tubbs Lake. Gary is survived by two sons Darrick of Grand Rapids and Benjamin of Muskegon; one sister, Mary Ann of Cassopolis and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol and parents, Calvin and Helene Smith. Per Garys wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
