Obituary

It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Fredrick Ralph (Rick) Habel on 7th of June 2026. He passed peacefully with his wife Kathy at his side, due to injuries sustained in a tree cutting accident. Rick had just reached his 70th Birthday. Rick now sleeps peacefully until the return of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Rick was born May 27th, 1956 in Elkhart, IN, the son of Donald and Flossie Habel. The family moved to Morley, MI in 1958. Rick graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1974, where he played football for all 4 High School years. After which he was able to enter into an apprenticeship for the Electrical Trade. Rick was able to reach the status of Master Electrician. Rick worked at Federal Mogul in Greenville, MI for 30 years and finished his career with Amway in Ada, MI before retiring.

Above and beyond his work he loved working with his hands, woodworking, carpentry, fabricating (he rebuilt a Model A Ford pickup) and doing mechanical work. His hobbies were many, car shows, motorcycle riding (Harley), snowmobiling, side by sides, camping, golf and just enjoying life. He and Kathy just started the process of building their dream home. Rick was very outgoing, loyal to a tee and dedicated both in his work and family life. He loved his family and extended family with all his heart. Rick had a unique sense of humor and ways to make you laugh (maybe just a little sarcastic lol).

He is survived by his wife Kathy, brothers Dennis Habel, Robert (Sally) Habel, daughter Holly (David) Nester, son Eric Habel, step sons Dan (Nicole) McClellan, Maverick Steffes (Summer Willis), 5 Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Also, his buddy Harley the Bulldog.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Flossie Habel, sister Carol Smith, sister-in-law Joyce Habel, nieces Diana Lynn Caterino and Kimberly Sue Smith, father-in-law Lee McGahan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11th, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Morley Community Center 151 7thStreet Morley, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Hospice in Rick’s name.
