Frederick W. Lang, age 72 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 13, 1942 in Detroit, the son of Traugott and Margaret (Sieloff) Lang. Fred married Nancy Llewellyn on November 24, 1962 in Detroit. A promotion for Fred, moved the family to Big Rapids to live in 1975. He worked for Michigan Tractor and Machinery for many years and later at the Mecosta County Sheriff's department, until his retirement. Fred was a faithful servant and student of the Lord. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, attending both St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids and currently Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church near Mecosta. He joyfully served in many capacities at both churches. Fred had a passion for hunting and studying history; he will be forever remembered as a man that truly loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy; three children, Frederick (Eunsook So) Lang of Athens, Greece, Cynthia (Russell) Davis of Jenison, Paul Lang of East Lansing; seven grandchildren Meghan (Kevin) Sweers, Emily Davis, Abigail Davis, Paul Lang, Joshua Lang, Elaina Lang and Madeleine Lang; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Paul) Ellis of Algonac, Christena Fitzgerald of Illinois, Diane Burns of White Lake; a brother-in-law, Theodore (Karen) Llewellyn of Madison Heights; many nieces and nephews including Debra Lang and Barbara Lang. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gerald F. Lang and a nephew, Jeffrey Lang. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Paul Schneider and Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, October 30th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Fred's name may be made to either Hospice of Michigan, Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church or St. Peter's Lutheran Church, organ fund.
