Obituary

Frank VanDyke, 80, of Mecosta, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at his home. He was born September 17, 1933, in Holland, the son of Abel and Jenny Van Dyke. Frank moved to the Big Rapids area in the 1960s. He owned and operated the Sportsman's Bar in Rodney until selling it in 1975. His most passionate thing to do was fish (first) and then hunt. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ruth; children, Cherie (Gale) Denslow, of Mecosta, Dawn (Lou) Martin, of South Carolina, Jeff (Eva) VanDyke of Grand Haven, and Kirsten Van Dyke, of Bay City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Frank and his wife Ruth had the opportunity to have two special ladies come into their lives almost three years ago when Frank really became ill. They couldn't have been closer to us than our own family. There are not enough words to say how much we appreciated them; Sharon and Missy, thank you. A very special thank you to a dear friend, Barb Davis, who has been with us every day, doing everything she possibly could for us. We love you Barb. A memorial luncheon for Frank will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Stanwood Buffalo Eagles, Aerie No. 4360. Memorial contributions in Frank's name may be given to his family.
