Obituary

Frank E. Sarns, age 90 of Morley, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012. He was born August 13, 1921, to Vernon A. and Emma E. (Cook) Sarns in rural Aetna Township. He attended Homestead (a local one room school), Big Rapids and Morley High School. Frank served with Company E. 126th Infantry, the local Big Rapids National Guard Unit, in the South West Pacific. He was a platoon sergeant, rifle platoon leader, and company commander. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant, earning the Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Purple Heart. At the end of his three and a half years of service overseas, he married Kathryne E. Lamberson. Following service, he attended the University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he was hired as a junior engineer by Consumers Power Company. He retired as gas superintendent after 26 years of service. Following retirement, he was employed as a consultant on the Alaska Gas Pipeline in Calgary, Alberta and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Tulsa, OK. Frank was a registered professional engineer, past president of the Jackson Chapter of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, also past president of the Jackson Lions Club. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a life member of the National Rifle Association. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, traveling, downhill skiing and wood carving. Survivors include his wife Kathryne, son Steven (Carol) Sarns of Green Valley, AZ and Salida, CO; brother George of Interlochen, MI; also nephews Wayne (Nonie), Douglas (Sharon) all of Morley, Keith (Terrie) of Evart, Michael Yates of Bainbridge Island, WA, and a niece Sandra Shovan of Morley. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Alec, William, John and sisters Thelma and Gertrude. With respect for Frank's wishes, there will be no services.
