Frank D. Koss, age 78 of Stanwood, passed away peacefully Monday, July 07, 2014 at home. He was born October 17, 1935 in Comstock, the son of Frank and Nellie (Maas) Koss. Frank graduated from Comstock High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Knobloch on May 7, 1954. Together they made their home in the Kalamazoo area where Frank worked for several local businesses. In 1968 the family moved to the Stanwood area and Frank was soon employed by the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Frank loved to play golf, especially with his wife, Joan. He was a talented woodworker, making furniture and cabinetry for his home. Frank was a devout member of Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church near Mecosta, where he served as a Trustee for several years. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan Koss of Stanwood; four daughters, Penny (Bernie) Brenner of Stanwood, Terri Koss of Florida, Karla (Randy) Snavley of Big Rapids, Ruth (Roger) Wrench of Howard City; seven grandchildren, Bernard Brenner, Robert Brenner, Phillip Brenner, Shallen Beatty, Courtney DePew, Jessica Austin, Ben Snavley; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phillip Koss. Funeral services will take place 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 9407 90th Avenue, Mecosta with Pastor Paul Schneider officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 9th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Stanwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Franks name may be made to either the Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church or Spectrum Health Hospice.
