Frances L. Vaughn, age 89 formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 in Kalamazoo. She was born September 11, 1919 in Waldron, Indiana the daughter of Frank and Lella "Rachel" (Thrasher) Pugh. Frances married Daniel Vaughn on April 21, 1940 in Indiana. They moved to Michigan in 1949 to make their home in Rogers Heights where Frances was an active member of her community. Following her husband's death in 1966 Frances began work at the Stanwood Elementary School. She later went to work at Ferris State University as a cook retiring in 1981. She was a devout member of the Rogers Heights Christian Church, a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star; she was active in the Guardian Council of the International Order of Jobs Daughters, a member of the White Shrine, Geneva Women's Club and the Red Hat Society. Frances moved to Bangor, MI in 2004 where she attended the Bangor Church of Christ for two years. She had lived in the Portage/Kalamazoo area for the last two years of her life. Frances is survived by her son, Daniel (Sharon) Vaughn of The Villages, FL, Her daughter, Kathryn (Russell) Hodgman of Bangor, MI, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Daniel, Frances was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Cain in 1994 and a granddaughter, Bethany Lynn Cain in 1986. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 10th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Frank Hicks officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogers Heights Christian Church, the Great Lakes Christian College or Hospice of Michigan.
