Frances M. Haney, age 98 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born in Detroit on July 27, 1915 to Sydney Earl and Margaret (Clark) Smith. She married Roland Haney on September 23, 1933 in Muskegon Heights. Family and friends spent many happy hours at the Haney cottage at Chippewa Lake. She is survived by her sons, Earl (Dianne) of Reed City, Marshall (Suzanne) of Grand Ledge; her daughters, Wini Oathout of Venice, FL, Rola Langell of Big Rapids and Trena Haney of Tustin; daughter-in-law, Dixie Haney; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Sydney and Marvin (Marilyn) Smith; sister-in-law, Donna Hall; many nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; a stepmother, Trena Hall Smith; husband, Roland Haney in 1977; son, William; sisters, Thelma Miel, Mary Ellen Bramer and Elaine Touzel; brothers, Floyd and Robert Hall. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Rebecca Morrison officiating. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Monday October 7th at the funeral home. Interment will be at Chippewa Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Frances' name to the charity of the donor's choice.
