Frances L. Benson, age 76 of Morley, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011. She was born September 26, 1935 in Luzerne Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mark and Agnes Pozezanac. The family moved to Chicago Heights and later settled in Howard City where Frances attended high school. She married Lawrence E. Benson on September 26, 1953 in Howard City; together they made their home on Northland Drive near Morley where Frances lived for over 50 years. In addition to being an active mother and homemaker, Frances worked as a nurse's aide at Greenridge Nursing Home in Big Rapids. She was an assistant at Riversbend Animal Hospital in Rogers Heights and owned and operated "Benson's Bassets" breeding and selling basset hound puppies. Frances enjoyed gardening and will be remembered by many for her beautiful flower beds in front of her home. She was an accomplished baker and often shared her baked goods with friends and family. Frances always looked forward to attending BINGO at the Morley American Legion. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church for over 30 years. Frances is survived by her son David (Karen) Benson of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Benson, Nicole (Jeff) Bates, Matthew Benson, Jennifer (Tyler) Sarns, Brittany Benson, Sarah Benson; two great-grandsons, Alex Bates and William Sarns; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 2000; 2 sons, Marko and Edward Benson; a grandson, Thomas Benson and three sisters, Betty, Dolores and Gladys. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 9596 North Reed Road in Howard City with Father James Wyse officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday, December 26th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church in Howard City on Tuesday. Memorial contributions in Frances' name may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.
