Obituary

Florence M. "Honey" Cockfield, age 86 of Canadian Lakes, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014. She was born February 5, 1927 in Detroit, the daughter of Lester A. and Gladys J. (Dallas) Bidlack. Honey married Walter "Wally" Cockfield on June 14, 1944 in Detroit; together they made their home in Redford. Honey earned her degree as a registered nurse in 1972 and worked in the NICU at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital until her retirement. Following retirement, Honey and Wally moved to Canadian Lakes where they have lived for nearly 30 years. Honey was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, the Canadian Lakes Melody Makers and she enjoyed bowling and golf. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Walter Cockfield of Canadian Lakes; three children, Lynn Spielman of Canton, Walter "Wally" Cockfield of Redford, Gary (Elaine) Cockfield of Redford, 10 grandchildren, Michael, Scott, Christopher, Gretchen, Joe, Andy, Nicole, Tricia, Joshua and James Todd; eleven great-grandchildren, Jacob H., Andie, Henry, Ayla, Olivia, Avalyn, Jacob C., Shane, Rudy, Ashley, and Logan; several nieces and nephews. Honey was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harvey Bidlack and a sister, Barbara Moore. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the New Hope United Methodist Church, 7296 9 Mile Road, Mecosta, MI, with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating. The family will greet friends at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Church. Memorial contributions in Honey's name may be made to the National Wildlife Federation.
