Everett Edward Griffin Jr., known to several as "Griff" , of Remus passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home at the age of 72. He was born to the late Everett and Iva Mae (Parkins) Griffin on March 10, 1935, in Rochester, MI. As a young man he quit school to help support his family. Griff was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. Griff lived in Romeo but spent several years in Washington, MI working as a die setter for National Machines until the operation closed. Before moving to Barryton about 30 years ago he worked at Farrow's in Mt. Pleasant. Griff was a self taught machinist and carpenter and liked to cook. He worked hard and had a good spirit. He was an avid fisherman who loved Salmon fishing; he had a deep appreciation for wildlife and nature and enjoyed mushrooming. On, May 4, 2005 he married Dorothea "Dot" Blanton at the Barryton Church of God who will continue to treasure the love and time they had together. He is also survived by four loving Children who remember him as being a wonderful man and beautiful father: Dean and Sandra Griffin of Spring Hill, Fla., Mark Griffin and Doris Sutton of Farwell, MI, Darryl Griffin of Spring Hill, Fla.and Amy and Mark Shingleton of Sturgis, MI. He is also survived by: a step son, Norm Gerber and Irene Rose of Wellston, MI who respected and admired Griff, his ex wife Marlene Griffin of Spring Hill, Fla., grandchildren; Scott, Timothy, Nicole, Carly, Caitlyn, Jamie, Amanda and step grandson Jessie. Griff will also be missed by the numerous friends that he made. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by; a son Eric Griffin on June 18, 2007, four brothers and sisters; Sam, Robert "Bob" , Dorothy and Ruth. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor John M. Mellish officiating. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Barryton American Legion Post 473.
